Group Therapy:

Stabilizing as the Compassionate Witness

Tuesdays 11 am - 1 pm Central Time

georgia o'keefe_edited.jpg

Our approach is simple—all of our inner experience is non-problematic when held in the warm responsiveness of compassionate awareness.

This group intends to hold that sensibility in all of its sessions and interactions, continually pointing you back to the loving ground of being as well as its many manifestations. Through deep modeling, relating, and practicing, you’ll find ways to embrace aspects of your humanity that have been orphaned, exiled, or divided from the stream of your experience. You'll also discover more deeply how all of our previous attempts to divide from ourselves have been strategies to survive, stay connected, and try for peace in the most difficult of circumstances.

This group may be for you if you:

  • Find your sense of self evolving and want a deeper therapeutic space to let things continue unfolding.

  • Want to incorporate Western psychotherapeutic approaches with the ineffable nature of pure awareness.

  • Trust that compassionately integrating old strategies for love, acceptance, and connection will support your waking up, growing up, and showing up in the world.

  • Notice that groups and relationships continually feel like tricky spaces for you, despite your having significant changes in your awareness and consciousness.

Why “Group Therapy?”

We find that many groups oriented toward psychospiritual growth walk a fine line between therapy and coaching/mentoring/training. In this group, we want to be clear that we’re in the business of therapeutic transformation by inviting the pain, wounding, trauma, or grief that may not be explicitly invited in other circles.

We intentionally keep small cohorts (9 max) with high therapist-to-participant ratios to increase the chances of attentive holding of our younger selves’ inner organization.

[Note that we—Mamie and Paul—are licensed in only a few states/provinces. Depending on who signs up for the cohort, we may do this work under our "coaching" umbrella instead of "licensed therapist" umbrella, although the work will be very similar.]

Time & Location

11am - 1pm Central Time

8 Weeks of 2-hr sessions (Next cohort start date TBD, mid-late summer 2026)

Plus, two 1-hr individual sessions with facilitators

Zoom

Our Process and Flow

The 2-hour sessions usually look like this:

5 min: Welcome and settle in
25 min: Voice dialogue* for transcendent and immanent qualities of care
20 min: Group processing and integration
5 min: Bio break

40 min: Breakout rooms that split the group in two, with one facilitator in each group. The focus is on helping individuals notice patterns of connection and disconnection (aka survival strategies**). Facilitator will point out specific patterns in real time and invite participant to relate in new ways to themselves, their patterns, and relationships in the group.
15 min: Return to large group for processing and integration
5 min: Centering, resourcing, and preparing to transition out of group into everyday life.

*Voice dialogue is a technique developed by Drs. Hal and Sidra Stone, both Jungian psychotherapists, in which you speak in the first person voice as different qualities or functions of self. In our approach, we don’t speak to sub-personalities, but rather aspects of Source that support our embodiment and non-dual realization. Our style of Voice Dialogue is heavily influenced by Integral Polarity Practice as well as our own psychotherapeutic training.

**The survival strategies we focus on are based on the NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM), which carefully maps how we create patterns of shaping, containing, or exiling our raw life force in order to obtain a sense of connection and regulation in environments that fail to support us as young people. These patterns usually continue into adulthood and can contribute to much of our suffering and difficulty—as well as gifts and unique offerings—in relative reality.

Here is an excerpt from a NARM resource:

We are interested in supporting those around us to become Fully Free and Fully Feeling, as our teacher Dustin DiPerna says.

Pole One — Fully Feeling
Embodied Self-Regulation (the relative, developmental, therapeutic function)

- Tracking sensation, emotion, impulse
- Staying within a workable range of activation
- Resourcing, orienting, integrating
- Maintaining relational contact (with self and others)

Pole Two — Fully Free
Awareness-Based Nondual Practice (the absolute, contemplative function)

- Recognizing awareness as primary
- Allowing all experience to arise without interference
- No need to fix, resolve, or regulate experience
- Resting as the field in which and as which everything appears
- Noting qualities of care toward experience that spontaneously arise

We invite a moment-to-moment therapy practice that supports us in recognizing which pole is being referenced and whether or not there's anything needed to work with it.

Facilitators

Paul Headshot_edited.jpg

Paul Peterson

My intention is to embrace all of experience exactly as it is (including survival strategies). In group, we'll all find the edges and limitations of our ability to be in full acceptance of what is, and I hope to be a voice of kindness as we find our way forward.

My interests include mind-body connection, meditation & hypnosis, and spirituality. And eating great food with my wife and kids!

Mamie Payne

My intention is to provide a safe and generative space for you to explore the vast and varied landscapes of your life with an eye for the sacred beauty inherent in all experience.

I hold the perspective that everyone has the capacity to access freedom from suffering and live a fulfilling life of possibility.
